    Our guide was excellent. I got so caught up in the history and her explanations that I forgot her name. She's from Colombia but knows a great deal about history. She's kind, warm, attentive, and very knowledgeable—she's very well-prepared. We loved the tour.

The Almudena Cathedral was the first cathedral consecrated by a pope outside of Rome. The ceremony was conducted by Pope John Paul II when the cathedral was completed in 1993, after over a century of construction.
